Paris and the Île-de-France region are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Claude Monet’s death through major exhibitions and special tours at leading museums, a celebration that will continue through 2027

Claude Monet, who passed away in December 1926 in Giverny, left an indelible mark on modern art history. A century later, museums in Paris and the Île-de-France region are coming together to pay tribute to him. Through the end of 2027, major exhibitions, immersive experiences, and themed events will explore the modernity of the artist’s vision, his work with light, and his unique artistic legacy.

🎯 A selection of exhibitions and highlights to mark the centenary

  • Monet: Painting Time at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris, from 30 September 2026 to 25 January 2027. Featuring nearly forty of the master’s paintings, the exhibition explores how Monet captures the fleeting nature of time and the seasons. The exhibition concludes with an immersive virtual reality experience entitled Monet – Down the River
  • Stories of Landscapes: From Monet to Hockney (1893–2026) at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, from 24 September 2026 to 31 January 2027. The museum traces 130 years of landscape history by creating a dialogue between Claude Monet’s paintings and leading figures of modern and contemporary art
  • Monet / Soriano at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris: a unique artistic encounter that draws parallels between the Impressionist master’s exploration of light and colour and the contemporary work of the Spanish artist Joan Soriano
  • Nature is not a backdrop. From Monet to contemporary artists at the Maison Caillebotte in Yerres (Essonne), from 8 May to 18 October 2026. To mark the centenary, Gustave Caillebotte’s former home brings together masterpieces by Claude Monet (notably the Water Lilies on loan from the Musée Marmottan Monet) with works by contemporary artists (Ronan Barrot, Markus Lüpertz, Érik Desmazières, etc.)
  • Claude Monet in Vétheuil: Between Light and Shadow in the Val-d’Oise, from spring 2026. The house where Monet lived from 1878 to 1881 will, exceptionally, open its doors to the public. An educational trail and an outdoor exhibition will explore this little-known yet crucial period of his creative life
  • Mémoire de limon at the Blanche Hoschedé-Monet Museum in Vernon (Eure), from 16 May to 23 December 2026. The museum is taking part in the celebrations with an exhibition dedicated to the legacy of water and landscapes left by Monet and his daughter-in-law Blanche Hoschedé-Monet on the banks of the Seine
  • The Normandy Impressionist Festival 2026: a regional, multidisciplinary programme bringing together over 100 events (major exhibitions in Giverny, Rouen and Le Havre, and contemporary art installations by Daniel Buren and Cai Guo-Qiang)

From the bespoke setting for the Water Lilies at the Musée de l’Orangerie to the world’s largest collection housed at the Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris is home to collections of exceptional richness. Alongside the Musée d’Orsay and the masterpieces at the Petit Palais, there are more intimate venues such as the Musée Clemenceau – dedicated to the painter’s great friend and supporter – or specialist venues such as the Hopkins Gallery offer a comprehensive overview of the artist’s career. For a fun and immersive experience, unique digital attractions such as Eclipso Paris also offer a fresh take on exploring the Impressionist movement.

Extend the experience beyond the capital by following the course of the Seine all the way to Normandy. In Giverny, the Claude Monet Foundation reveals the legendary house and gardens that inspired his greatest masterpieces, whilst the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny explores the legacy of a movement that continues to fascinate people around the world.

The program is spread across the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée de l'Orangerie, the Musée Marmottan Monet, and Claude Monet's House in Giverny. The program also takes place in Normandy (Giverny, Le Havre, Deauville, Rouen, Honfleur, Caen, and Vernon).
