International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia: a major event in Paris

On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, celebrated every 17th of May, Paris is mobilising with committed events.

The day before, don't miss Le Bal de l'Amour, a festive and inclusive evening celebrating diversity in the heart of the capital.

In January, the Festival des cultures LGBT gets the ball rolling. This multi-disciplinary event (exhibitions, shows, film screenings, concerts and so on) takes place in various parts of Paris.

In March-April, cinema pays tribute to LGBT sensibilities with the women-oriented Festival international du film de femmes and the queer-focused Festival de films d’artistes sur le queer. March is also the month when Queer Week takes place in various venues across Ile-de-France, with an eclectic programme comprising debates, hikes, parties and performances. Then there is the Printemps des assoces fair, featuring a range of exhibitions, workshops and activities.

In June, a few days before the Marche des Fiertés LGBT (Gay Pride parade), the TIP (Tournoi International de Paris) brings together sportspeople from around the world for an event open to all participants, whatever their gender, age or skill level. Go for it! Plus, at the very start of the month, Disneyland Paris takes on all the colours of the rainbow for Magical Pride!

When autumn rolls around, it’s time for Jerk Off – a multi-disciplinary event devoted to queer and alternative culture. Visitors flock to this event to enjoy all kinds of shows: plays, dance performances, lectures … there’s something for everyone.

In October the focus shifts to transgender people and their supporters during the Existrans parade.

November is the month for gay, lesbian, bi and trans culture. With no fewer than three unmissable cinematographic events as the year draws to a close – Chéries-Chéris and the Paris International Lesbian & Feminist Film Festival, cinemagoers are spoilt for choice! And don't miss the Salon du Livre gay, which places the focus on literature by gay writres, and offers visitors a rare opportunity to meet and chat with big-name authors.

And all year round, make your marriage proposal with the first and only LGBTQ+ agency in Paris, Gay Proposal in Paris.
