A musical performance at the Palais Garnier in tribute to the famous dancer and singer Josephine Baker
To celebrate the 120th anniversary of Joséphine Baker’s birth, the Palais Garnier will present a show in her honor from 9 to 19 September 2026. Titled “Perle noire: méditations pour Joséphine,” it explores the inner world of the famous dancer and singer who electrified Paris during the Roaring Twenties. Peter Sellars directs this new production. The music is by composer Tyshawn Sorey, who will serve as musical director of the International Contemporary Ensemble on stage. Joséphine Baker is portrayed by soprano Julia Bullock.
