Opéra national de Paris - Opéra Bastille, Place de la Bastille - 75012 Paris
From May 2, 2023 to June 4, 2023
Puccini's great opera is presented at the Opéra-Bastille in a new mise en scène by Claus Guth.
From 2 May to 4 June 2023, the Opéra Bastille presents La Bohème Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece, created in 1896, in a new and innovative staging. La Bohème is transposed to a space capsule, a receptacle for Rodolfo's memories of his unsuccessful love affair with the singer Mimi. Drifting through space, he is overwhelmed by flashbacks recalling the cafés of the Latin Quarter, and sensory impressions of the atmosphere of Paris, its passers-by, the colours and scents of the street.
With this transposition into the cosmos, director Claus Guth uses the evocation of the past and the memories of the heroes to make a moving story about the existence of threads of memory through the sublime music of Puccini.
Opera in Italian, surtitled in French and in English.
7.30pm, except Sundays 14 May and 4 June at 2.30pm
