Athénée théâtre Louis-Jouvet, 2 Square de l'Opéra-Louis Jouvet - 75009 Paris
From 9 to 18 April 2026
An original reinterpretation of Molière: the baroque opera Il Vecchio Avaro performed by Vincent Dumestre and Le Poème Harmonique.
The Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet presents a rare treat: L'Avare (or Il Vecchio Avaro), adapted from Molière by Venetian composer Francesco Gasparini in 1720. In this Baroque intermezzo, the plot is tightened and the perspective shifts: it is now Fiametta, a young woman determined to punish her miserly neighbour, who takes the lead. To steal the old Pancrazio's gold, she disguises herself as Fichetto, her imaginary male double. Under the direction of Vincent Dumestre, the ensemble Le Poème Harmonique joins forces with director Théophile Gasselin to bring this work back to life. With its cross-dressing, cunning and musical virtuosity, this production is a lively, human and modern Baroque comedy. For French-speaking audiences only.
