Bus, metro or tram with the family

La Rédaction Paris je t'aime -

Fast and efficient: public transport in Paris takes you everywhere in the capital

Paris has a very dense network of metros, buses and trams. These criss-cross the twenty arrondissements, while the RER (Réseau express régional) trains serve the surrounding areas.

Please note that not all stations and lines have escalators or lifts to facilitate access for pushchairs or people with reduced mobility. And on some buses, only two unfolded pushchairs are allowed, so it is recommended that you fold your pushchair if this number has already been reached.

📌 Please note:

  • Children under 4 travel free of charge
  • Children aged 4 to under 10 travel at half price (50% discount) on single tickets and passes
  • Children aged 10 and over pay the full fare
  • The ‘T+’ paper ticket is no longer available. It has been replaced by two single digital tickets for the entire Île-de-France region: the Bus-Tram Ticket (valid on the entire surface network) and the Metro-Train-RER Ticket (valid for any rail journey in the region, excluding airports)
  • Connections: the Bus-Tram ticket allows you to transfer from one bus to another or between a bus and a tram for 1 hour 30 minutes (without return or interruption). Connections between the rail network (Metro/RER) and the surface network (bus/tram) require two separate tickets, unless you use the Navigo Liberté+ service
  • End of paper tickets: booklets of 10 cardboard tickets no longer exist. Load your tickets onto a Navigo Easy pass, your smartphone or use contactless bank card payment directly on board buses.

💡Good to know:

  • Children love riding in a train carriage, and even more so when they can travel with a view of Paris' monuments on metro lines 2 or 6!
  • Between Orly Airport station and Saint-Denis - Pleyel, line 14 resembles a ghost train: automated and driverless, it speeds through tunnels, which can be seen through the panoramic windows at the front and rear.
  • Line 1, one of the oldest metro lines in the capital, is now automated.
