the towers of Notre Dame in pictures

The spectacular tour of the towers of Notre-Dame de Paris begins with the ascent of the south tower. The first room offers an introduction to the history of the cathedral, illustrated by models and a display of original chimeras, which bear witness to medieval imagination and the work of Viollet-le-Duc. In a second room, a soundscape immerses visitors in the great events of French history, punctuated by the sound of the famous bourdons. The climb continues via a double spiral oak staircase, specially designed for this reopening, which leads to the top of the south tower. At a height of 69 metres, a 360° panorama reveals Paris and the spire of Notre-Dame, with orientation tables to help visitors identify the monuments. The descent is via the courtyard of the cisterns, with unique access to the bourdons and an unprecedented view of the restored framework of the ‘forest’. The tour also allows visitors to admire the emblematic chimeras up close. Finally, the descent from the north tower is accompanied by an immersive sound creation, designed to offer a soothing moment and bring this exceptional visit to a gentle close.
