🎯 Navigo, City Pass or Museum Pass: which pass should tourists choose?

Depending on your priorities for your visit, there are several options available to help you make the most of your stay in Paris.

📌 Navigo Easy card and Navigo Day pass

The Navigo Easy card is an anonymous rechargeable card that allows you to top up with single tickets (metro, RER, bus-tram) or a Navigo Day pass. The latter option offers unlimited travel for one calendar day, from 00:00 to 23:59, within the selected zones. The key difference from the Paris Visite pass is that the Navigo Day pass is valid for a specific day (purchasable up to 6 days in advance), whereas the Paris Visite pass is valid for a rolling period of consecutive days starting from the first validation. The Pre-loaded Navigo Easy Pass is a practical solution for occasional visitors.

❓Frequently asked questions

What are the benefits of the Paris Visite ticket?

The Paris Visite pass offers unlimited travel on all public transport in the Île-de-France region for the duration of the validity period you choose, allowing you to get around freely without worrying about the cost of each journey. Perfect for family trips, it offers reduced fares for children aged 4 to under 10 and free travel for children under 4. Convenient and easy to use, the pass can be loaded onto a Navigo Easy card or directly onto your smartphone.

What is the best pass for visiting Paris?

The choice of pass depends above all on your priorities during your stay. If you plan to use public transport a lot, the Paris Visite pass remains the most suitable option with its unlimited travel on all networks. For culture lovers, the Paris Museum Pass offers direct access to over 50 Parisian museums and monuments. If you wish to combine visits with a variety of activities, the official Paris City Pass offers a flexible choice of 3, 5 or 6 attractions from a selection of museums, cruises and guided tours. To make the most of Paris, you can combine these passes: for example, use the Paris Visite for travel and the City Pass or Museum Pass for sightseeing.

Does the Paris Visite pass cover the airports?

Yes, the Paris Visite pass covers both of Paris’s main airports. To get to CDG Airport, take the RER B directly from Paris at no extra cost. For Orly Airport, you have two options: metro line 14, which goes directly to Aéroport d’Orly station, or the RER B to Antony followed by the Orlyval. These journeys are fully included in your pass, representing a substantial saving compared to individual airport tickets.

Is the monthly Navigo pass a good option for tourists?

The monthly Navigo pass is generally not suitable for tourists for several practical reasons. This pass requires proof of residence in the Île-de-France region and operates on a calendar month basis (from the 1st to the last day of the month), which does not correspond to the usual duration of a tourist stay. For visitors passing through, the Paris Visite pass remains the best solution as it is valid for consecutive rolling days from the first validation and requires no administrative formalities. If you are staying in Paris for just one day, the Navigo Day pass may be an attractive alternative, valid from midnight to midnight across all zones.

What should I do if I don’t have a ticket or a Navigo pass to board?

If you haven’t had time to buy a ticket, you can use your bank card as an immediate stopgap solution at the ticket validators. This universal service allows you to be in compliance instantly and can cover up to five passengers travelling together using the same card. Please note, however, that each journey validated in this way incurs a surcharge (+€0.50 for buses, trams and the funicular; +€0.80 for the metro and RER) and does not allow for free transfers. This bank card system is already operational on most buses and on the Montmartre funicular, and will be rolled out in stages across the metro and RER networks by the end of 2027, with full coverage planned by 2030.
