Disability card: validity and advantages

Do you have a disability card? Find out how it works and the advantages it offers in Paris and the Ile-de-France region

If you are the holder of a disability card - or a Carte mobilité inclusion (CMI) - you are entitled to several benefits, provided that your card is recognized. European disability cards give you the same privileges as French disability cards: parking, public transport, etc.

1. Recognition of foreign cards

Disability cards issued in the European Union (EU) - such as the European Parking Card – are valid in Paris, allowing access to reserved parking spaces and public transport with reduced fares or free travel. For other disability cards issued outside the EU, additional documents may be required: English/French translation, medical certificate, etc.

2. Advantages on public transport and for parking

Only holders of a French, European, Australian, Canadian, Korean, American, Japanese, Mexican or New Zealand disability card can travel free of charge or at a reduced fare on Paris public transport (metros, buses, RERs, trams). They also have access to reserved parking places, with regulations similar to those for French cards.

3. Access to museums and cultural attractions

The national museums and monuments in Paris offerreductions or free admission to people with disabilities, including holders of foreign cards (on presentation of an English/French translation or a medical certificate).

Tips from Paris je t’aime

  • Remember to check the validity of your disability card before travelling to take full advantage of the benefits available
  • For foreign cardholders, remember to take with you a translation of your disability card and a medical certificate in the event of a control
