A retrospective - the first of its kind in France - of the work of contemporary American painter Kerry James Marshall, who brings to life the Black community, which is underrepresented in Western art
From 18 September to 24 January 2027, the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris is presenting the first retrospective in France dedicated to the contemporary American painter Kerry James Marshall, who reinterprets art history by placing Black people at the center of his works as a form of manifesto. Known for his colorful, monumental paintings, the artist addresses slavery, the civil rights movement, and the Black Power movement in the United States, capturing scenes of everyday life and popular culture. The exhibition, organized by the Royal Academy of Arts in London in collaboration with the Kunsthaus in Zurich, brings together 70 works, eight of which were created specifically for the event.
