“Hugo and Architecture. From Stone to Pen,” on view through 22 November 2026, at the Maison de Victor Hugo, explores the writer’s deep fascination with architecture. Victor Hugo viewed monuments as a living memory and drew a direct analogy between the assembly of stones and the construction of a narrative. This symbiosis culminates in *Notre-Dame de Paris*, where the cathedral becomes the beating heart of the novel, but it also permeates all of his works and sketches. From historic monuments to imaginary ruins, from romantic castles to the architectural transformation of his own home in Guernsey, the exhibition reveals the visionary perspective of an artist for whom drawing, building, and writing are all expressions of a single creative impulse.
