300 years of history! All of that tucked away on a little square away from the noise of the Boulevard des Italiens on a site given by the Duc de Choiseul.
The history of the Opéra Comique is marked by closures, fires, new creations, international theatrical successes, and innovation. Burned down twice, it rose from its ashes, taking advantage of new developments, with a structure modelled on the Eiffel Tower, and was the first theatre in Europe to be built with electricity.
A place of artistic creation: La Damnation de Faust by Berlioz, Lakmé by Delibes, Les Contes d’Hoffmann by Offenbach, Pelléas et Mélisande by Debussy, L’Heure espagnole by Ravel… and especially Carmen by Bizet and Manon by Massenet.
