A tribute to strollers and curious walkers, the Passage des Panoramas is considered to be the first covered passageway in Paris. Located opposite the Passage Jouffroy and the Musée Grévin, it was built in 1799 and has retained its old-fashioned charm and lively shopping atmosphere. Each shop window reflects a part of the capital's history; from the Bourse district to the Grands Boulevards, sheltered by a superb glass roof, the shopping street is a listed historic monument. Along its 133 metres of bustling activity, you'll find a succession of food shops and art craftsmen. They rub shoulders with numerous collectors of postcards, coins, autographs and old stamps. Admire the period decorations still in place, such as those of the former Marquis chocolate factory and the Stern printing works, symbolising the ambitious town planning of the late 18th century. Inaugurated in 1807, the Théâtre des Variétés is still in operation, programming shows and comedies. It has been bringing life to the area for two centuries, with many celebrities performing there.
