Galerie des Enfants - Muséum national d'histoire naturelle

36 rue Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire - 75005 Paris
Under the subdued light of an enormous glass roof, you can enjoy a spectacular display of life-like animals, which look almost as if they are moving! This permanent exhibition educates visitors about the diversity of the living world, the evolution of different organisms and man’s impact on the environment.

Within the Grande Galerie de l’Evolution, the Galerie des Enfants, designed for families, opened in June 2010. Biodiversity and environmental problems are addressed in a practical and fun way: you can observe, touch, ask questions and be amazed by the diversity of plants and animals from different environments: the city, the river and tropical forests.

The Galerie des Enfants is a permanent exhibition for children aged 6 to 12, accompanied by at least one adult.

-Physical disability: the Grande Galerie de l'Evolution and the Galerie des Enfants are wheelchair accessible with disabled toilets. The height of our furniture and layout has been specially thought through. The Paléontologie and Anatomie Comparée galleries are not accessible. Some other sites in the museum are partially accessible with an accompanying person (Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes).
-All disabilities: free entry to permanent exhibitions (except for tactile tours), guided tours, workshops with speakers. For those with a disability, our guided tours and workshops use materials and resources that are tailored to their audiences. Audio guides and adapted plans are available to download at http://www.museesenliberte.fr/index.php.
-Visual impairment: in the Grande Galerie de l'Evolution, tactile plans are available to discover about 15 bronze animal sculptures (free access).
A corian sign with bas-relief drawings and explanations in Braille accompany each sculpture. Each floor has maps and descriptive signs in contrasting colours, with large writing and relief text.
Audio impairment: guided tours and workshops in French Sign Language, lead by deaf tour guides. All the multimedia displays and videos with spoken audio are sub-titled in French and English and translated into French Sign Language.
Mental disability: poly-sensorial elements that are fun and interactive, simplified guides and tours.
