Les Frigos is a former refrigeration station built in 1921, then shut down and hired out to artisans and artists from 1980. It is one of a kind, bringing together 14 different professions spread out over 87 workshops housing 120 professionals from all fields: painters, sculptors, photographers, architects, publishers, businesses, designers/stylists, stringed instrument makers, etc. However, Les Frigos nearly disappeared in 1992 during the construction of the Paris Rive Gauche district around the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. The occupants' fierce will to stay there saw it through. The time to go is during the open house, usually at the end of May, over a weekend.
