All eyes on the Montparnasse district

La Rédaction Paris je t'aime -
A close-up look at Montparnasse, in the heart of Paris’ 14th arrondissement. The district is well-known for its eponymous landmark skyscraper and has a wealth of offerings to make every event a success. Read on!

The district has a rich history, frequented by artists, and continues to offer a wide range of cultural activities with renowned museums and walks as well as emblematic cafes and brasseries. The TGV station of the same name, which serves the Loire Valley, the west and south-west of France, Spain, and Portugal, makes it an ideal area for holding an event ... and there is no shortage of venues and services!

Spotlight on: a skyscraper and a re-designed district

Inaugurated in 1973, the 209-metre-high Montparnasse Tower is one of the highest buildings in Paris. At the end of 2022, work will begin on modernizing the Tower, with the aim of making it brighter, higher, and greener. Among other things, it will be raised by 20 metres and an agricultural greenhouse will be installed at the top. Following on from this, the whole of the Maine-Montparnasse district will be revamped to meet the new urban challenges: the creation of pedestrian areas, greening, renovation of old buildings, etc.

The redevelopment of the district has also included a full renovation of the Gare Montparnasse, which has just been completed, the Pullman Hotel (the second largest hotel in Paris in terms of capacity) reopened in December 2021 after a 4-year transformation project, and the creation of the Ateliers Gaîté (opening planned for autumn 2022).

Planning an event: atypical places

Some of these places are not at first sight the kind of venues that host corporate events, and yet … Did you know that it is possible to organize a private tour followed by a cocktail reception in the Catacombes de Paris? Something to send a shiver down the spine of your customers! And the Musée de la Libération de Paris – Musée du Général Leclerc – Musée Jean Moulin is available for full private hire for your receptions in a setting that still reverberates with Paris’s recent history.

Planning an event: event venues

The district has plenty of innovative places for hosting seminars and meetings!

The Paris Montparnasse Top of the City, on the 56th floor of the Tour Montparnasse, provides the highest panoramic room in the capital. Ideally located in the Artists' Quarter, L'Atelier des Rêves offers a light-filled space for photo shoots, film shoots, collection fittings, workshops, meetings, conferences or events. To enhance your project, enjoy musical accompaniment on the violin and/or piano as well as exceptional cuisine.

Sleeping and meeting

The Montparnasse district has a large hotel offering with the presence of some of the largest capacity hotels in the capital: in particular the Pullman Paris Montparnasse (957 rooms) which has re-opened after a 4-year complete refit. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view, 3 restaurants including the highest open-air rooftop terrace and 3 floors of dedicated event spaces.

Two Novotel hotels offer lovely fully equipped spaces for events: the Novotel Paris Centre Gare Montparnasse (199) and the Novotel Paris Vaugirard Montparnasse (187 rooms), which has the added bonus of a terrace with a view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower.

Finally, the Paris Mariott Rive Gauche (757 rooms) offers 4800 sqm of meeting space and 55 modular meeting rooms.

The district’s hotel offering is rounded off by the Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse (188 rooms – 3 meeting rooms): renovated and colourful, in Rue de la Gaité; the Niepce Paris Curio Collection by Hilton, design and luxury with 52 rooms, a restaurant and a meeting room (50m²) for business meetings. Finally, the Villa Modigliani (a 3-star hotel with 101 rooms and 7 meeting rooms) is located in a quiet area, set back from the intersection of the boulevards Montparnasse and Raspail. Another option, the FIAP, a 493-bed accommodation residence, offers 23 meeting rooms (from 8 to 200 seats) and 2 restaurants.

For more confidential accommodation, Maison Lavaud offers two very premium flats. A luxury guest house in the heart of Paris, just 15 minutes from Porte de Versailles!

Eating and meeting

The Montparnasse district is home to the legendary and popular La Coupole brasserie. Up to 400 covers in an Art Deco setting for your receptions and private hire of the dance hall. The restaurant La Verrière at the hotel Niepce Paris Curio Collection by Hilton offers 80 covers in a bright and refined setting for a meal with both Japanese and French flavours.
