With several well-known specialities, Brittany is reputed for its cooking, especially desserts. The best-known traditional Breton dishes include kouign amann (milkbread cake), far breton (a sweet or savoury pudding cake, most often made with prunes), crêpes, pancakes and quatre-quarts (pound cake). Because it is right on the seaside, Brittany is also known for its fish and seafood recipes. To wash it all down, try a Kir Breton, made with cider instead of white wine, chouchen, the local mead, and various kinds of local beer including cervoise barley beer.
