The main street on the île Saint-Louis, which runs through the centre of the island is thronged with 17th century town houses, as well as shops and restaurants. Major landmarks include the Church of Saint-Louis-en-l'Île, recognizable by its openwork belltower, the Chenizot townhouse and its porch decorated with dragons, and the Lambert townhouse (on the corner of the Quai d'Anjou), an architectural masterpiece by Le Vau. For fans of artisanal ice cream, a stop off at Berthillon’s is a must.
