The former Place de Grève, used in the past to hold public executions, is today the more festive Place de l’Hôtel de Ville and used for public entertainment: an artificial beach during the “Paris Plages” event, a giant ice rink during the winter festivities, trade fairs and a giant screen for large sporting events are all installed here.
