Place Charles-de-Gaulle, commonly known as Place de l'Étoile, closes off the upper part of Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Twelve avenues with Napoleonic names (Wagram, Mac-Mahon, Carnot, Grande Armée, Foch, Victor Hugo, Kléber, Iéna, Marceau, Champs-Élysées, Friedland and Hoche) emerge from the square in a star shape. The square is world-famous for the spectacular Arc de Triomphe (completed in 1836), which offers a breathtaking panoramic view from its roof terrace. It's also the starting point for a pleasant stroll along the emblematic Champs-Élysées avenue.
