Parvis de Notre-Dame - 75004 Paris
Notre-Dame - Île Saint-Louis
Covering an area of around 1,200 m², the Parvis de Notre-Dame de Paris is a square located in front of Notre-Dame cathedral, precisely in front of its western façade. Since 2006, the square has been known as Place Jean-Paul II, in tribute to the Pope who died in April 2005. It is also a place for gatherings and events. A statue of Charlemagne by sculptor Louis Rochet can be seen on the Seine side of the square. Under the forecourt, an archaeological crypt displays the remains discovered during excavations in the 1960s and 1970s, dating back to Antiquity. The Parvis de Notre-Dame is the perfect starting point for exploring the Île de la Cité, where you will also find the Sainte-Chapelle and the Place Dauphine.
