The Fontainebleau area is a place of outstanding natural and cultural heritage, less than an hour from Paris! Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, the Château de Fontainebleau and its gardens bear the hallmark of some of the greatest sovereigns: 34 kings and 2 emperors stayed there. The forest of Fontainebleau offers visitors 25,000 hectares of nature; it is a UNESCO listed Biosphere Reserve. Many leisure activities are practiced here: boulder climbing, hiking, and cycling, horse riding... Fontainebleau, an imperial town, never fails to impress visitors with its terraces, squares and magnificent theatre. The villages of charm and character are also the pride of the area. Barbizon, Bourron-Marlotte and Samois-sur-Seine, on the edge of the forest, were holiday resorts for the early Impressionists. They invite you to experience this elegant and bucolic Art de Vivre à la Française.
