Krzysztof Warlikowski’s reimagined version of Ambroise Thomas’s opera, a blend of introspection and psychoanalysis
From 18 September to 9 October 2026, the Opéra Bastille will present “Hamlet,” an opera composed by Ambroise Thomas, based on William Shakespeare’s famous play. Premiered in 1868 at the Opéra national de Paris, the opera was a resounding success at the time. Now presented in a production directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, it offers a psychoanalytic take on the plot, in which Hamlet, lost in his memories and thoughts, recalls his father’s murder, thereby reliving the pain associated with his death. Opera in French, with French and English subtitles.
