Back machine #2: the typewriter

A dive into the history of the keyboard

From November 25, 2025 to October 2026, the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie is dedicating the latest stage in its Machine arrière series to the typewriter. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey backwards, from our modern keyboards to the first typewriters of 1936, tracing the evolution of writing and communication media. Through a lively scenography - historical objects, graphic frescoes, sound installations - the exhibition explores not only technical innovations, but also the social transformations linked to the work of typing. A nostalgic and instructive immersion in how a simple keyboard has shaped the way we write.
