Back to the roots. Artists’ perspectives on racism and discrimination

Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration, Palais de la Porte Dorée - 293 avenue Daumesnil - 75012 Paris
From 5 June to 23 August 2026

The Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration examines the mechanisms of racism and exclusion through an unprecedented confrontation between contemporary artworks and scientific data

From June 5 to August 23, 2026, the Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration presents "Aux origines", a major exhibition deciphering the persistence of discrimination in our society. This unique exhibition combines the work of contemporary artists with the latest social science research, notably from the European UNDETERRED project. The exhibition explores how stereotypes - often inherited from colonial times - continue to shape everyday life in crucial areas such as school, work, housing and health. Through installations, paintings and photographs, the artists propose a "counter-view". Some divert colonial codes to resurrect forgotten voices (Kara Walker, Roméo Mivekannin), while others bear witness to the experience of those who suffer these mechanisms of exclusion (Bouchra Khalili, Yohanne Lamoulère).
Tuesday-Friday, 10am-5.30pm. Saturday-Sunday, 10am-7pm. Closed Mondays. Free admission for under-26s and on first Sunday of each month.
Full price: €12. Reduced rate: €9
