Sculpting Color: Masterpieces from the National Sculpture Museum, Valladolid

Masterpieces of 17th-century Spanish sculpture are on display at the Louvre

From 7 October to 25 January 2027, the Louvre invites the public to explore 17th-century Spanish sculpture through the exhibition “Sculpting Color: Masterpieces from the National Sculpture Museum, Valladolid.” Presented alongside the exhibition dedicated to the Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán (1598–1664), it showcases a selection of sculptures - mostly religious and carved from polychrome wood - that display an impressive sense of naturalism. Among the masterpieces on display is the exceptional “Paso Camino del Calvario,” a monumental ensemble of five life-size sculpted and painted figures created by Gregorio Fernández, which has never before been exhibited in France.
