Marie-Caroline, Duchess of Berry. The Rebellious Princess

Château de Sceaux, musée départemental, Domaine départemental de Sceaux - 92330 Sceaux
From 13 September 2026 to 14 February 2027

The Château de Sceaux is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles

The exhibition “Marie-Caroline, Duchess of Berry: A Rebellious Princess” traces the extraordinary life of this Neapolitan princess who arrived in France in 1816 to marry the heir to the House of Bourbon. A widow at just 22 years old, mother of the famous “miracle child,” a passionate patron of the arts, and an influential political figure, she knew how to use images, the press, and public opinion with astonishing modernity to defend her cause and that of her son. Held in the Former Stables of the Domaine de Sceaux, the exhibition brings together nearly a hundred exceptional paintings, sculptures, engravings, works of art, and documents. Through this chronological journey, visitors discover a free-spirited and rebellious woman who left her mark on her era, while exploring the issues of power, fame, and the place of women in 19th-century French society.
The museum is open every day, except Mondays, January 1, May 1, and December 25.
