Musée Carnavalet - Histoire de Paris, 23 rue Madame de Sévigné - 75003 Paris
From 15 April to 23 August 2026
A sensitive, embodied portrait of this great 17th-century figure, whose correspondence left its mark on literary history.
The exhibition "Madame de Sévigné. Parisian letters", on view from 15 April to 23 August 2026 at the Musée Carnavalet - Histoire de Paris, offers a sensitive, embodied portrait of Madame de Sévigné, a major figure of the 17th century, whose correspondence left its mark on literary history. Housed in the Hôtel Carnavalet, where she lived for almost twenty years, the tour reveals a woman who was attentive to her times, and a keen observer of Parisian society and its upheavals. Autographed letters, portraits, documents and objects reveal a vibrant Paris, as seen through a free, elegant and deeply human pen. Exchanges with her daughter, the heart of her work, provide an intimate view of daily life, social circles and the key events of the reign of Louis XIV.
