Spotlight on Kwame Akoto, pastor and committed painter, a major figure in the contemporary West African art scene
The exhibition ‘Kwame Akoto. Almighty God Art Works’ presented at the quai Branly - Jacques Chirac Museum from 31 March 2026 immerses the public in the world and history of Ghanaian painter Kwame Akoto, a key figure in the contemporary West African art scene. This artist, whose career path is anything but conventional, started out as a sign painter in the studio he opened, then quickly took the reins of his Almighty God Art Works studio and ended up developing a universe that blends faith, social criticism and humour. Also a pastor, Kwame Akoto is very attached to the local life of his city, and his spirituality and faith largely guide his work. The exhibition showcases the works he paints at Almighty God Art Works, combining moralising phrases, scenes from everyday life, spiritual messages and self-portraits.
From 10.30am to 7pm. From 10.30am to 10pm on Thursday. Closed on Monday.
