Inside the Secrets of Korea’s Painted Libraries from the Royal Dynasty During the Joseon Period
From 16 September to 4 January 2027, the Guimet Museum is hosting an exhibition on chaekgeori, the Korean art of trompe-l’œil painting that originated in the 18th century during the reign of King Jeongjo. Stemming from a fusion of Chinese scholarship and Jesuit perspective, this genre - which depicts idealized libraries - quickly spread during the Joseon Dynasty. Beyond books, these screens featured Qing porcelain, bronzes, writing implements, and symbols of virtue. The exhibition brings these paintings into dialogue with authentic period objects thanks to exceptional loans from the National Museum of Korea, the Louvre, and the National Museum of Singapore.
From 10am to 6pm. Closed on Tuesday, 25 December and 1 January.
