Exhibition

Gardens of the Enlightenment, 1750-1800

Château de Versailles, Place d'Armes - 78000 Versailles
From 5 May to 27 September 2026

An exhibition on 18th-century English landscape gardening at the Grand Trianon, Château de Versailles

The "Gardens of the Enlightenment, 1750-1800" exhibition, presented at the Grand Trianon of the Château de Versailles, is devoted to the world of landscape gardening, which emerged in England in the 18th century, breaking with the regularity and geometry of the French garden. This new art of gardening, which celebrates nature and fantasy, is evoked through nearly 160 works ranging from paintings to furniture and costumes. The visit can continue in the English garden of the Petit Trianon, commissioned by Marie-Antoinette, where you can admire the Belvedere, the Queen's Hamlet and the Temple of Love, true witnesses of this landscape art. On view from 5 May to 27 September 2026.
From 12 noon to 6.30pm. Closed on Monday. Special opening 25 May.
