Florian Krewer at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris: The Fury and Poetry of Weightless Urban Life
The Museum of Modern Art in Paris is hosting the first solo exhibition in France by German artist Florian Krewer, titled “Woven Thin,” through 4 January 2027. Presented as part of the permanent collection following a donation to the museum, this retrospective brings together sixteen recent monumental canvases, including previously unseen works. Arranged in a dense and tightly packed display, these compositions offer an intense immersion into the painterly practice of the German artist, who resides in the South Bronx in New York. Infused with his own experience of the street and his poetic universe, Florian Krewer’s deeply autobiographical painting explores the constant tension between raw beauty, intimacy, and the violence of the contemporary world. His solitary figures - dancers, performers, and animals - freed from the constraints of physical gravity and social norms, move through ethereal urban landscapes in the midst of metamorphosis.
