The art of film posters at the Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Foundation
At the Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Foundation, the exhibition ‘Making an impression: when film posters were invented’ takes us back to the early days of cinema. From visionary lithographers such as Cândido de Faria to Art Nouveau illustrators, more than fifty posters, sketches and lithographic stones reveal how, between commerce and creation, images conquered the streets and shaped the visual identity of early films. Restored silent films, posters and interactive displays place these treasures in their technical and social context, revealing the ingenuity of the Parisian workshops that inspired modern graphic design. A rich journey where the poster becomes an artistic manifesto, mirroring the cultural effervescence of the years 1890-1930.
