Painter Eugène Delacroix's Deep Passion for the Animal Kingdom
On view at the Eugène-Delacroix National Museum from September 12 to April 18, 2027, the new exhibition “Delacroix, Horses, and Other Animals” highlights the Romantic painter’s deep and enduring fascination with wildlife, and more specifically with the equine figure. Centered around two recently acquired and restored works—*Study of a Chestnut Stallion* and *Study of a Golden Chestnut Stallion*—the exhibition immerses visitors in the heart of the artist’s private creative process. Far from being mere anatomical exercises, the studies and sketches that Eugène Delacroix kept in his studio throughout his life constituted an inexhaustible source of inspiration and reference. The exhibition highlights the evolution of his creative process and is accompanied by a contemporary dialogue featuring photographs by Karen Knorr—as part of the PhotoSaintGermain festival—as well as a unique cultural program including workshops, lectures, and guided tours.
From 12pm to 5.30pm. From 10am to 5.30pm Saturday and Sunday. Closed on Tuesday, 25 December and 1 January.
