A fascinating exhibition on healing practices, exploring the intersection of beliefs, medicine, and spirituality
With the exhibition “Believe and Heal: And Deliver Us from Evil,” the Saint-Denis Museum of Art and History invites visitors to discover the fascinating history of healing practices throughout the centuries. Drawing on an exceptional collection of 285 objects, primarily from the former Hôtel-Dieu and the apothecary of Saint-Denis, the exhibition highlights the many ways in which societies have sought to heal the body and the mind. Through works of art, medical objects, testimonies, and depictions from various cultures, the exhibition explores the connections between religious beliefs, protective rituals, scientific medicine, folk remedies, and scientific advances. Housed in a venue steeped in history and spirituality, it examines the boundaries between faith, magic, science, and health, while shedding light on healing practices that continue to influence contemporary societies. Blending history, anthropology, and cultural heritage, this exhibition offers an original reflection on our relationship to illness, healing, and beliefs.
