The history of the Théâtre de la Ville, situated in the centre of Paris, is a turbulent one. Inaugurated in 1860, burnt down in 1871 during the Commune de Paris, renamed and renovated several times and directed by Sarah Bernhardt for 25 years, the Théâtre de la Ville is one of the most emblematic theatres in Paris. Its superb facade is registered as a listed historical monument. It offers a rich and eclectic programme: theatre, dance, and classical and world music concerts.
