Located near the Luxembourg Gardens, the Zadkine Museum—nestled amid the greenery of its garden filled with sculptures—houses the home and studios where Ossip Zadkine (1890–1967), a Russian-born sculptor and major figure of the École de Paris, lived and worked from 1928 to 1967. The museum presents a selection of works representative of the sculptor’s artistic richness and evolution. From the “primitivism” of his early sculptures—sensitively carved from wood or stone—to the rigorous geometry of Cubism, from the fluid lines of a reimagined Neoclassicism to the lyricism of his later years, Zadkine’s work testifies to an inexhaustible freedom and vitality.
