Musée national Eugène-Delacroix

Located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood, in the last apartment and studio of the painter Eugène Delacroix (1798–1863), the Eugène-Delacroix National Museum is a unique and captivating museum space with a beautiful garden—a rare find in Paris.
The Delacroix Museum houses paintings, drawings, prints, and letters by Eugène Delacroix as well as his contemporaries, exploring the painter’s work and creative process through a variety of themes: Romantic painting, his travels to Morocco, religious painting, and large-scale set designs…
Among the painter’s iconic works are “Mary Magdalene in the Desert,” which inspired Baudelaire, “The Education of the Virgin,” “Romeo and Juliet,” and the fresco “Bacchus and a Tiger.” Visitors can also discover lesser-known works such as “Study Based on One of Goya’s Caprices, two medieval book covers, and an oriental jacket,” so characteristic of the artist’s creative process, as well as two 3D models for the interior design of the library at the Palais Bourbon of the National Assembly and the Chamber of Peers at the Palais du Luxembourg, now the Senate.
Sketches and finished paintings, drawings created using various techniques, engravings… all offer a glimpse into the different facets of the artist’s talent and provide a deeper understanding of his creative process. Delacroix’s circle is also highlighted through portraits and copies of his major works, such as “The Death of Sardanapalus” and “The Women of Algiers,” created by his friends or admirers like Fantin-Latour.

Every day at 3:30 p.m., except on free Sundays and holidays, museum staff share their passion for the Delacroix Museum and its collections with the public. Open to all visitors, these 15-minute sessions offer a unique way to discover the museum through the eyes and expertise of the museum staff, punctuated by anecdotes about the life and work of Eugène Delacroix.

Opening times and prices

The museum is free for under-18s of all nationalities.

Admission to the museum is free on the first Sunday of every month, as well as on July 14th.
The museum is also free for under-26s from European Economic Area countries, Paris Museum Pass holders, teachers, Ministry of Culture staff, ICOM members, jobseekers and those on minimum social benefits.

The admission ticket to the Musée du Louvre gives free access to the Musée Delacroix on the day of booking at the Musée du Louvre or on the next day that the museum is open.

Self-guided group rate: €20 reservation fee for each group + €9 admission fee per visitor.
Group rate with museum guide: €200 + entrance fee of €9 per visitor.

Special evenings from 6pm to 8:30pm, depending on the program.

To make your visit as comfortable as possible, the Musée Delacroix is open to individual visitors at the following times:
▸ from 12pm to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday (except Tuesday, which is closed) ;
▸ from 10am to 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The museum is open to groups by prior arrangement, Monday to Friday, 9.45am to 12pm, except Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
