Located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, in the last apartment and studio of the painter Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863), the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix forms a singular and captivating museum space with a beautiful garden, a rare place in Paris.
The Musée Delacroix brings together paintings, drawings, prints and letters by Eugène Delacroix and his contemporaries, exploring the painter's work and creative process through a variety of themes: Romantic painting, the voyage to Morocco, religious painting, grand décors...
Among the painter's most emblematic works are "La Madeleine dans le désert", which inspired Baudelaire, "L'Éducation de la Vierge", "Roméo et Juliette" and the fresco "Bacchus et un tigre". We can also discover lesser-known works such as the "Étude d'après un des Caprices de Goya, deux plats de reliures médiévales et une veste orientale", so characteristic of the artist's creative work, or two 3D models for the decor of the Palais-Bourbon library at the Assemblée nationale and the Chambre des pairs at the Palais du Luxembourg, now the Sénat.
Sketches and finished paintings, drawings using a variety of techniques, engravings... allow us to discover the different aspects of the artist's talent and better understand his creative work. Delacroix's entourage is also evoked through portraits or copies of his major works, such as "La Mort de Sardanapale" or "Les Femmes d'Alger", painted by his friends or admirers such as Fantin-Latour.

An immersive sound trail, freely accessible via the museum app: https://application.musee-delacroix.fr/
gives voice to his housekeeper and confidante Jenny Le Guillou.

Every day at 3:30pm, except free Sundays and public holidays, museum staff share their passion for the Musée Delacroix and its collections with the public. Aimed at the general public, these 15-minute encounters allow visitors to discover the museum in a different way, through the eyes and knowledge of the museum staff, punctuated by anecdotes about the life and work of Eugène Delacroix.
