The Musée de la Gendarmerie Nationale, created in 1946, presents its collection to the general public. Thanks to close collaboration between the national Gendarmerie and the Conurbation Melun Val de Seine (CAMVS), the new museum takes shape in 2015. With a 1200 m² permanent exhibition and a 200 m² temporary exhibition, the museum displays a comprehensive and diverse collection (uniforms, hairstyles, figurines, weapons, badges, fine and popular art, copperware, photos, documents). The exhibition route is arranged chronologically, around an immense suspended display case, 18 metres long and 8.5 metres high, running through the building. Visitors can explore the national Gendarmerie's history, in parallel with France's history, and also find out about the Gendarmerie of today and related events.
