Musée de la Contrefaçon

16 rue de la Faisanderie - 75116 Paris Trocadéro - Passy

Usually closed at weekends, the Musée de la Contrefaçon is celebrating by opening its doors to the public on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 2pm to 6pm. A rare opportunity to discover its unusual collections in the privileged setting of a private mansion in the 16th arrondissement, at the usual admission rates (full rate: €6 / reduced rate: €5).

On the program for this special day:

  • Self-guided tours: Explore the museum's rooms to learn how to distinguish the real from the fake, through more than 500 seized objects (luxury, high-tech, toys, gastronomy)
  • Expertise and education: Take advantage of this Sunday opening to learn more about the challenges of intellectual property and the surprising methods used by counterfeiters
  • Historic setting: Discover the remarkable architecture of the premises, an exact copy of an 18th-century town house, exceptionally accessible this Sunday
Nestled in a magnificent mansion on rue de la Faisanderie - itself an exact copy of an 18th-century mansion in the Marais district - the Musée de la Contrefaçon is the only establishment in the world entirely dedicated to the art of forgery. Originally founded by Gaston-Louis Vuitton to train professionals, it opened its doors to the general public in 1972 to become a place of education and curiosity. The museographic tour features a motley collection of over 500 objects seized or donated by brands. From Gallo-Roman amphoras to the latest high-tech products, not forgetting Rodin bronzes, medicines, car parts and famous luxury bags, each piece tells a story of fraud... and ingenuity. The exhibition systematically compares the original with its copy, inviting visitors to take part in a visual treasure hunt. Beyond the anecdotal, the museum explores the real consequences of counterfeiting: risks to health and safety, impact on the global economy and damage to innovation. A must-see if you want to understand what goes on behind the scenes of creation and intellectual property.
