Inaugurated on December 5, 2002 by President Jacques Chirac, the Mémorial de la guerre d'Algérie et des combats du Maroc et de Tunisie pays tribute to all those, military and civilian, who died for France between 1952 and 1964. Located on the Quai Branly, just a stone's throw from the Eiffel Tower, this monument commemorates the conflicts in North Africa and the many memories they evoke: conscripts, volunteers, harkis, civilian victims and the missing. With its sobriety and symbolic force, this national memorial invites us to reflect on and recognize an important and painful page in contemporary history.
