THEATRE/CONCERT HALL

La Colline - Théâtre national

15 rue Malte Brun - 75020 Paris Père-Lachaise - Ménilmontant
La Colline is the most recent of 5 national theatres devoted to the dramatic arts and entirely funded by the Ministry of Culture, with, in Paris, La Comédie Française, the Odéon, the Théâtre National de Chaillot, and at Strasbourg, the TNS. It is one of the most important cultural institutions to have been established in the east of Paris. The theatre boasts two auditoriums, the Grand Theatre with a maximum capacity of 700 seats and the Petit Théâtre, a modular auditorium with 200 seats. The building was designed by the architects Valentin Fabre and Jean Perrottet, assisted by Alberto Cattani. They also designed among others the Théâtre de la Ville and the main auditorium of the Théâtre de Chaillot. Its glass facade and numerous spaces for circulation (walkways, etc.) are representative of its desire to open out onto the local area and welcome different audiences. The decor is the work of the interior designer Annie Tribel Heinz. The ship-like appearance of the theatre, its 12 metre high glass facade and its rough use of concrete gives the Théâtre de la Colline a look that is representative of 1980s architecture.
