CHURCH AND OTHER PLACES OF WORSHIP

Cathédrale de la Résurrection

Cours Monseigneur Roméro - 91000 Évry 91 - Essonne, Évry
This cathedral suprises the visitor with its cylindrical shape, cut out at the summit on an oblique plane, and crowned with 24 silver linden trees, and with its material- equally inhabitual for religious architecture: 800,000 bricks. This original design by Swiss architect Mario BOTTA emphasizes the circle and favours the light, which shines through the two arches of the glass roof. The interior, of a great sobriety, uses theatrical techniques for the acoustics. The altar and the baptistery are in marble from Carrara. A small crypt, lit by a well of light, houses the Chapelle du Saint-Sacrement. The cross, the tabernacle and the statue of the Holy Virgin were designed by Monsieur GAROUSTE.
