Measuring 800 metres long and 70 metres wide, the Bassin de la Villette is the largest artificial body of water in Paris, linking the Canal de l'Ourcq to the Canal Saint-Martin and developing river transport. Numerous events and cultural activities (shows, concerts, theatre) make this basin a festive place and very popular with Parisians. In summer, the water sports centre offers kayaking and small boats for hire without a licence.
