In January, a few days before the publication of the Michelin Guide and its eagerly awaited list of starred restaurants, the magazine Le Chef published its list of the world’s top 100 chefs. The rankings were established by hundreds of chefs international chefs, with 2 or 3 stars in the Michelin Guide. Each of these chefs selected 5 of their peers who, in their eyes, best embody the values of gastronomy, whose cuisine is a must and where it is essential to have eaten.

Paris has a sound reputation in haute gastronomie, with numerous starred restaurants in the capital.
The first Parisian chef is Yannick Alléno (in 11th place) for his restaurant Alléno Paris - Pavillon Ledoyen in the very chic 8th arrondissement. Not far from there are the two other Parisian chefs who feature in the top 10: Éric Frechon (24th), at the helm of the restaurant Epicure (hotel Le Bristol), and Pascal Barbot (14th), who presides over the cooking at L'Astrance.
Not far off the top 10, star chefs Alain Passard and Pierre Gagnairerank respectively 15th and 38th are of course also in the ranking. New arrivals on the gastronomy scene also feature amongst the world’s greatest chefs. Chefs Jérôme Banctel for Le Gabriel at the La Réserve Hotel and David Toutain for his eponymous restaurant make up this new generation that offer contemporary and fusion cooking.
