To better showcase the capital's metropolitan dimension to Parisians, Paris Region residents and foreign visitors, a new type of signage is being installed to communicate points of interest in Greater Paris, accessible on foot, by bike or by public transport.
©Paris je t'aime
This unique metropolitan signage project is led by Paris je t'aime - Office de tourisme and supported by the Ville de Paris, the Métropole du Grand Paris, Val-de-Marne Tourisme & Loisirs, Seine-Saint-Denis Tourisme, the Département des Hauts-de-Seineand the Destination Contract #ExploreParis, in partnership with Enlarge Your Paris.
The aim of this signage is to better distribute the flow of visitors and offer a broader, authentic, fun and sustainable experience of Paris.
These installations use the backs of JCDecaux's existing, but unused, directional signage, with a view to sustainability.
In all, 25 masts and 70 panels are involved, pointing to some 50 destinations.
On each mast, an invitation in French and English to discover Greater Paris points the way to a tourist, sports or green point of interest. Each sign also indicates the distance by bike to reach the proposed point and the journey time by public transport, to encourage tourists and Parisians alike to use soft mobility. The official Paris je t'aime website and the Enlarge your Paris website will echo this signage and relay the information.
For example, from the Parc de la Villette, visitors are invited to discover the Parc forestier de la Poudrerie; from Boulevard Paris 13, Vitry-sur-Seine and its street art are highlighted; on the Ile de la Cité, the Ile Saint-Germain is proposed; and from the Notre-Dame sector, the Véloscénie cycle route linking Paris to Mont Saint-Michel will inspire cyclotourists. Numerous tours of the various sites are available on exploreparis.com.
What's more, one year ahead of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games and with a view to the Olympic legacy, The aim is also to raise awareness of the sporting dimension of the Paris region, by pointing out Olympic venues open to amateur practice - such as the Vaires-Torcy white-water stadium or the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines national velodrome - as well as prestigious or unusual sites where sports can be practised - such as the Fontainebleau rock-climbing crags or the Cergy-Pontoise surf wave. SPOT24, a new Paris je t'aime venue due to open at the foot of the Eiffel Tower in autumn 2023, is also part of the scheme.
Imagined by local media company Enlarge your Paris and the Magasins généraux creative center, 2018 winner of the FAIRE PARIS gas pedal for innovative architectural and urban projects.
