The world-famous Italian painter Giovanni Bellini, his works and his art are the focus of a major retrospective exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart André from 3 March to 17 July 2023
A founder of the Venetian school, Giovanni Bellini paved the way for many 15th century artists such as Titian and Giorgione. Drawing his inspiration from Byzantine art and northern European painting techniques, he was known for his use of colorito, paying particular attention to colour, in contrast to the Florentine paintings of the time, and he continued to develop his style throughout his career.
The exhibition features some fifty oil paintings exceptionally on loan for the occasion from the Petit Palais, the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, the Galleria Borghese in Rome, the Museo Correr, the Gallerie dell’Accademia and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, the Musée Bagatti Valsecchi in Milan, as well as numerous loans from private collections. An ideal opportunity to discover Venetian art and the historic and artistic background to the works of one of the most important masters of the Italian Renaissance.
