Iconic black and white photos by Elliott Erwitt to discover at the Musée Maillol
In the United States, Italy, and, of course, Paris, Elliott Erwitt was always on the lookout for scenes, each more amusing than the last, and captured them with his camera.
From 23 March to 24 September 2023, the Musée Maillol throws the spotlight on one of the most talented photographers of the 20th century. An American of Russian descent, Elliott Erwitt spent the first years of his life in Europe, notably in Italy and Germany, but also in France in Paris. Once settled in the United States, he was spotted by the famous Magnum agency. This marked the beginning of a prolific career.
This retrospective of almost 70 years of photos presents 220 of the artist's images, mainly in black and white, with a few unique ones in colour. Through his photos of Paris and its inhabitants, as well as customs of American life, fashion photos and photos of his travels as a photojournalist, Elliott Erwitt offers a wonderful collection of photos, which reveal a touch of humour.
