A leading American artist and social activist to discover at the Musée Picasso Paris
Faith Ringgold, the artistic voice of black American communities, is celebrated in Paris and her work which explores gender and racial identities is showing for the first time in Europe.
After a show at the New Museum in New York, visitors can discover the first retrospective devoted to the American Faith Ringgold in France, at the Musée Picasso Paris from 31 January 2022 to 3 July 2023.
Central to the work of the New York artist are various social struggles such as feminism, the difficulties of the underprivileged classes and the black American communities, from the struggle for civic rights to Black Lives Matter.
The exhibition ‘Black is beautiful’ presents numerous paintings, sculptures and coloured mosaics by the artist, whose art links the rich heritage of the Harlem Renaissance to the current art of young black American artists. Through her strong and politically conscious works, symbolic of the history of the 20th century, an artistic dialogue is created with Picasso, particularly with his Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.
