Simon Boccanegra, opéra de Giuseppe Verdi

Opéra national de Paris - Opéra Bastille, Place de la Bastille - 75012 Paris
From March 12, 2024 to April 3, 2024

The poignant destiny of Simon Boccanegra comes to life in one of composer Giuseppe Verdi's favourite operas, to be discovered at the Opéra Bastille.

Several performances of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra are being given at the Opéra Bastille, directed by Calixto Bieito and conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock. Premiered in Venice in 1857, this opera plunges the spectator into the life of Simon Boccanegra, who after a spell as a privateer becomes Doge of Genoa. Faced with discord within his Council and between Genoa and Venice, he sets out to re-establish peace and political unity in Italy. While working for his country, he also had to deal with a very painful personal tragedy: the loss of his little daughter.
